Fred Obachi Machoka is arguably Kenya’s longest serving broadcaster having started his trade at National broadcaster in the 70s.

Fondly known as Uncle Fred, he boasts not only of his knowledge in music but also of his interaction with many artists across the world from way back in his youthful years. Machoka is calm, fatherly and yet authoritative in his delivery on radio.

A onetime soldier in the Kenya defense forces, Machoka maintains his army-like mannerisms of being a gentle man at any time and following the right procedure in whatever he does. He is a husband father and grandfather, roles he talks about proudly on his radio show. An ardent soccer fan, he believes that Manchester United is the best team ever and has travelled several times to watch matches at Old Trafford. His age, experience gives him the audacity to call out on leadership and management politically remind them of what’s going wrong while at the same time applauding achievements and exceptional work. Machoka is revered by audiences across the divide as evident in the reception he receives when he meets his fans. He remains humble and ready to learn from each of his encounters with any of his fans. In his own words; “I was surprised that BABA called my name when we met at Nyayo stadium for a Mashemeji Derby game” .

Machoka is an accomplished farmer and lives and farms on his ranch in Kajiado county.
